SMT in scraper deal

Volvo dealer SMT GB has taken on distribution for the Canada-built K-Tec articulated hauler scraper boxes.

The appointment covers mainland Great Britain and is with immediate effect. CEO Nick Allen said it will give customers “a complete end-to-end solution in the bulk muckshifting sector”.

The boxes are designed to be pulled by articulated haulers and are compatible with most of Volvo’s ADT range. K-Tec Earthmoving Inc. has four sizes of scraper ranging from 21.5m³ heaped capacity and payload of 30.8 tonnes up to 48.1m³ heaped capacity and 68.5-tonne payload. The 1237 model is also available as a Train scraper.

Conversion from ADT dumper body to scraper hauler takes around 10 hours with no modifications to the dumper body. The process can be reversed in the same time.

K-Tec president Mike Palitsky commented: “During our visit to SMT’s head office in Duxford, we were extremely impressed with the team and knew immediately that a partnership of the two organisations would be a great fit.

“This agreement solidifies K-Tec’ s expansion into the UK market and we are very proud to be partnered with SMT to position both companies for future growth.”
