Caterpillar has released a total of 16 D3 Series skid steer and compact track loaders and claims the models are an industry first in supporting a line of new ‘smart attachments’. The technology recognises certain attachments and tailors the controls and operator information to match the tool and the job.
Changes to the undercarriage frame and torsion axles on the tracked loaders are designed to reduce machine pitching and rocking and to give better ride comfort. The 279D3 and 289D3 machines have an 8.4 mph ground speed while the 239D3 and 249D3 models are now built with two-speed transmission as standard compared with the previous single speed.
All the new machines have return-to-dig and work tool positioner features to help operators with repetitive tasks such as grading, digging, and loading.
