Site clean-up in capital

Seven acres of brownfield land are to be cleaned up to pave the way for the multi-million pound regeneration of the Fountainbridge neighbourhood in Edinburgh.

Plans for the scheme have taken a major step forward with the launch of a bidding process by Edinburgh City Council to appoint a development partner for the former Fountain Brewery site.

A contract notice published by the council seeks expressions of interest from potential developers and it is hoped to have a development partner in place by next summer.

Redevelopment proposals for the canalside land include more than 400 homes, a 10,000 sq. metre office building, shops, and public realm projects.

Regeneration of Fountainbridge has progressed in recent years with former industrial land being transformed into offices, hotels, flats, and student accommodation. An outline business case to redevelop the council’s remaining land was approved in March. Construction could begin in spring 2021.
