A 47-year-old employee of quarry equipment company SCG Supplies was crushed to death this week as he demonstrated a machine to a customer.
Andrew Darling was demonstrating the crusher to recycling and haulage firm Neil Williams Group – his former employer – at its head office in Dalkeith on Wednesday afternoon when the incident happened. It’s believed he entered the maintenance hatch and was killed when a metal plate fell on his chest. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Mr Darling joined Airdrie company SCG, which supplies spares and wear parts for crushing, screening and recycling equipment, last September after more than 10 years working at Neil Williams Haulage. He leaves a wife and daughter.
A Police Scotland spokesman said a report had been submitted to the Procurator Fiscal.
