Scotland is a big market for tiltrotators.

Molson Group has been appointed sole dealer for SMP tiltrotators in England, Scotland and Wales. It takes on the products just six months after the previous franchise holder appointed a manager to spearhead growth in the UK.

The Swedish products, which under the previous agreement had been handled in the UK by Quality Construction Equipment, are manufactured in a range of seven models for excavators from 3-30 tonnes and will be available from June. They will be sold through the Molson Equipment and Molson Compact Equipment businesses and in Scotland via Molson Young Plant Sales.

Jonathan Wilson, group joint managing director, said: “SMP have a great approach to business. They listened to what we explained was necessary for their product to be successful in the UK and are working with us to deliver the best possible solution.”

Molson has sold various brands of tiltrotators over recent years and said it will continue to support customers on warranties, parts and servicing on ‘legacy’ units.

Molson distributes Kobelco and Hyundai excavators and will now be able to offer customers a single source for excavator\tiltrotator packages.

Hans Hanses, managing director at SMP Parts AB, commented: “Molson Group offer a unique route to market for SMP. Not only do they have a large, effective sales team, they also have the knowledge, skills and scale in their aftersales team to support customers to the level required to change the current landscape of the UK tiltrotator market.”

Scotland remains the biggest market in the UK for tiltrotators.

Last October Quality Construction Equipment appointed Peter Jack as country manager for the UK & Ireland with responsibility for setting up a dealer network. He has now left the company to take up a position with a materials handling dealership in the north-east of Scotland.
