LiuGong targets quarries

Chinese manufacturer LiuGong has assembled an international team of experts to boost its presence in the quarrying and mining sectors.

Ex-Caterpillar and International Harvester veteran John Calder has been appointed director of quarry and aggregates after two years in the company’s product support operation. He has held senior international positions in marketing, sales and dealer development over a 30-year career.

The manufacturer has a wide portfolio of heavy equipment.

The team will focus on lowering customers’ costs and making them more productive and more profitable. “Based on feedback from many customers, the competition seems to be doing it the other way around, so we see great potential to grow internationally,” said Calder.

“Our strategy is simple and is based on going back to four basic critical success factors: people, product, parts and service and price.”

Calder (right) leads a team with more than 250 years’ collective experience in the quarry and mining industries. It is multicultural, speaks 10 languages and has expertise in sales, marketing, product development and support, finance and dealer development.

LiuGong’s portfolio of heavy equipment includes large wheeled loaders, 50-, 70- and 90-ton excavators and rigid frame and wide-bodied trucks. Additional products and services are said to be under development.
