A-Plant looks north

A-Plant is continuing to widen its presence in Scotland following last year’s acquisition of two firms on this side of the border.

Two of its expanding businesses, PSS Hire and FLG Services, have since opened a number of sites and are also in the process of setting up another shared location, this time in Inverness which will also incorporate A-Plant Lux traffic control and management.

PSS specialises in pipeline equipment.

PSS Hire is a utilities and pipeline equipment provider and has expanded in Scotland through a combination of acquisition and organic growth. In 2014, it acquired East Coast Construction Services Ltd and Hy-Ram Engineering (Scotland), both of which have now been integrated into the PSS Hire network. In addition, a new 10,000ftservice centre has been opened in Bathgate.

Mark Hamilton, director of PSS, said: “Scotland was identified as a key area for expansion as we have secured a number of contracts and our increased network coverage allows us to service these contracts effectively. For instance, we’ve recently secured a five-year Framework Agreement with Scottish Water which runs until 2020.”

To service that contract and several others, the business has invested £3.5m in new equipment from a number of suppliers.

FLG, which specialises in lifting and handling equipment, has enjoyed similar growth and has opened centres in Glasgow and Edinburgh. Director Jeff Hudson commented: “We are undergoing rapid expansion in Scotland to increase our national coverage. We now have a full range of equipment for hire or sale readily available.”
