The contractor that cleared a Scottish trunk road bottleneck after 30 years has won an award from the Northern Ireland construction industry.
McLaughlin & Harvey landed won the CEF Construction Excellence GB and Republic of Ireland Award for its work on the A82 Pulpit Rock realignment on Loch Lomondside.
The new GB and Republic of Ireland category was introduced this year to acknowledge projects undertaken outside Northern Ireland and recognised the many challenges faced by the site team during construction of a six-span, 175-metre long viaduct (right) along the shore of Loch Lomond.
Works also involved the stabilisation of rock, which was cut to widen the road over a length of 400m, and led to the removal of a bottleneck that had been under traffic light control for more than three decades.
The Belfast-based company was also a finalist in last month’s Scotland’s Best Employer Awards 2015 organised by Business Insider magazine.
