Hyundai breaks 1,000 barrier

Hyundai is claiming the title of fastest growing construction equipment supplier in the UK after a year in which sales have accelerated by more than 25%.

Hyundai Heavy Industries Europe (HHIE) said 1,000 machines have been shipped to its dealers in the UK and Ireland so far this year. That’s up from 782 in 2013 and the South Korean manufacturer said competitors can’t match its prices.

Young Plant Sales, the dealer in Scotland, has made a big contribution to the Hyundai success. Managing director Brian Young said there had been “tremendous growth” with sales rocketing by 130% over the last two years.

“The product is second to none in terms of operator comfort, power, stability and performance. It has also proved very reliable and fuel efficient too. All round it’s been a very good deal, for us and for our customers!”

Alain Worp, sales director for construction equipment at HHIE, said: “Hyundai is a growing brand all over Europe but especially in the UK we have done very well. The challenge ahead is to continue this growth path with our existing Hyundai dealers in the UK and strengthen and grow our dealer network throughout Europe and enhance and widen our product portfolio.”

The company has refined its distribution and logistics chain to meet the surge in demand. Once in the UK, machines are stored at a depot in Tilbury before spreading out to its nine dealers.  The Hyundai UK head office in Bracknell has an after sales team supporting dealers and customers.

Worp added: “For next year and beyond the primary target remains to further increase all European market shares in all machine segments we are covering, especially in the key countries UK, Germany and France which, at the moment represent about 70% of the total European potential.

“Hyundai’s key strengths lie in the quality of its machines, our significant investment in R&D, innovation and a highly competitive price, which our competitors are unable to match.”
